The previous two versions of the Apple Watch SE, released in 2020 and 2022, had a design similar to the flagship models but featured fewer health functions and a less powerful processor. They were made of aluminum, unlike their stainless-steel counterparts.
Apple’s latest move involves replacing the aluminum case with a rigid plastic one. According to Gurman, this switch will allow Apple to price the new Apple Watch SE below $200. Additionally, the plastic material opens up possibilities for a wider array of vibrant colors tailored for children.
